U.S. is back in the plutonium business
Thu Mar 14, 2013
Fascinating article. It sent me off to read the Wikipedia entry on neptunium which led to an investigation of plutonium 238 versus 239. PU 238 has a half life of 88 years and emits alpha particles. It is perfect for generating the heat used to make electrical power.

If I didn't know this was a rock on Mars I would think that hole had been drilled into a piece of limestone.
Obama, Romney to meet for lunch Thursday
Wed Nov 28, 2012
Millions of Americans voted for Romney. He got about 47 percent of the popular vote. I think President Obama is being both gracious and smart in meeting with him. It will be interesting to see what, if anything, material comes from this meeting.
Alcoholic men can't feel your pain. Here's why
Thu Nov 8, 2012
It has been my observation that alcoholics come from all walks of life and have all manner of psychological makeup. I like to call alcoholism an equal opportunity life destroyer. It is not possible to generalize about who has the potential to become an alcoholic.

October surprise: Americans feeling better about economy
Mon Oct 29, 2012
Real estate is starting to sell in my area and that seems like a good sign. People that I know that work in health care have been gainfully employed since the great recession hit. I guess the field must be recession proof. The folks that have lots of money have done very well.
Consumer sentiment hits a five-year high
Fri Oct 26, 2012
President Obama's poll numbers have been on the rise for some time now. Romney's are going down. The rise in consumer sentiment and the falling gas prices is helping Obama. See the 538 blog: http://fivethirtyeight.blogs.nytimes.com/
Falling pump prices could give Obama a lift
Tue Oct 23, 2012
It is interesting how this article was tied to Presidential politics. I guess that is the best way to get us to read it. It could have been about oil supplies, refineries, global influences on oil prices, domestic gas prices etc.
